OFP Timber Framed Houses Ltd (OFP), which specialises in the design and manufacture of high quality, timber framed homes, was introduced to Communicate as it was relocating from its facilities at Stonar Lake Industrial Estate to a set of brand new units and offices at Discovery Park, Kent.
Communicate’s Network and Infrastructure Manager for Discovery Park, Mark Styles & Chris Vilton from Think Big Tech met with OFP’s Managing Director, Alastair Narraway, to see where they could assist and add benefit to his growing business, while offering an IT relocation package to ensure a smooth transition.
Alastair’s relocation timescale was very tight and there were several technical challenges to overcome, with server migrations and new telephony requirements, everything was delivered on time to enable OFP to be up and running on day one in their new location.

Mark Styles said – “Having worked with Alastair on his IT requirements, we’ve been able to provide OFP with highspeed internet connectivity, IP networking and a building wireless solution, which is all linked to a new virtual file server. We’ve also installed a VOIP phone system, which will allow OFP to continue to grow as a company.
“The time scale was very tight – in fact we had just a matter of a couple of days to setup, migrate everything across, back up, restore and test, to ensure everything was on track ready for OFP’s transition into their new home. This was seamless and no down time was experienced by them or their clients.
Chris Vilton said “The time scale was tight, but we all pulled together to ensure that the move went as smoothly as possible, having done several large IT relocations in the past we were confident that with the assistance of Communicate and their onsite datacenter that we could deliver a package that would exceed Alastair’s expectations”.
The Think Big Tech team had been in talks with Alastair for some time leading to the move and although only acting as consultants at the time they advised that the best solution would be combine the skills sets of Communicate & Think Big Tech and house the new server at Communicates managed data Centre. The Think Big & Communicate team went to work immediately and within a week had migrated their entire email system over to Microsoft 365 from their existing Server 2003 within a week. With both teams working around the clock the new system was setup & running within a weekend, this involved group policy’s, drive mappings, data transfer, rejoining the domain, deskside support, IT infrastructure & telecoms. All users were at their new desks and working on the next working day. Snagging was minimal and their new system is now up and running allowing Alastair and his team to run their business without any technical disruption.
Alastair commented further: “At OFP we care about every step of our processes and this really matters to us – all of our products are ‘created with care’. After meeting Mark & Chris, we saw the two companies were exactly the same as us and so working with them was easy as our company ethos and way of working are so well aligned.
“From tree to final roll out – we know where everything we use is from and that it’s all sustainably sourced. We have next to no waste leave our factory, even the sawdust is compacted down and fed into our Biomass boiler system to provide heat and we have PV tiles on our roof to give us electricity – we are almost self-sufficient and this is something which I am very proud of achieving.
